How did you discover CBD and herbal teas? What made you start your business focusing on herbal teas with the infusion of CBD?

I'm originally from the South of France and that's relevant to the story. I'm based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands for seven years. I have been a fan of cannabis for many, many years, about 15 years now. I'm a daily cannabis consumer, but it's not until recently that I knew more about CBD and its benefits about three years ago.

I had quit my corporate job to start my own business and that was a quite a dark time for me, although it sounds like a great thing that happened and it was. I'm really proud and I'm glad it happened.

I was working a lot and I have a tendency to be a workaholic, and I was about to hit my second burnout. I could feel it come in, which is why I decided to change my lifestyle entirely. But I fell into depression and it was really hard for me to learn to care for myself again.

And I had to learn self-care from the beginning - getting out of bed in the morning without having somebody that checked on me like a manager. Feeding myself at decent times, even showering. I fell into this dark hole that my life has no purpose anymore, and nobody cares because nobody's seeing the work that I'm producing.

And I think all of us entrepreneurs can relate to that because it's really a lesson to go from working hard for somebody and getting financial reward. I'd worked in sales, I did my job, I got money for it, got a pat on the back, and then I had to do that for myself. So it was really big learning curve.

After I started slowly coming out of it, I really explored herbal teas consciously. And I say consciously because I had been drinking herbal tea my whole life. Growing up in the South of France with a big garden, my mum would pick up her herbs and make me infusions, and I loved it.

I love herbal teas, but I was never given it that much thought as per why I was drinking the tea other than it's lovely and warm and tastes nice. But I started to study the herbs a lot more intentionally, including hemp.

Hemp, for those of you who don't know, hemp is the more legal term of cannabis that contains less than the legal amount of THC. So that means that hemp is basically cannabis, and that's the one that's legal in Europe.

For example, the THC maximum amount is 0.2%. In the US, it is 0.3%.

So I started looking at hemp infusion, and hemp is naturally occurring in CBD. I started pairing it with other powerful herbs that could help with stress and anxiety, which I'm really prone to. That's when I discovered the full extent and benefits of a hemp-based tea blends.

I started sharing them with my friends, with my family, and they started telling me that it was working for them too. They started telling me about the other problems they had because the first blend I made was for anxiety. Then I realized so many people struggle with sleep hormonal imbalances.

There's just a wide range of things that you can look at with herbal teas. Mother Earth is amazing that it has created plants that basically help with anything. And hemp, when you start looking into it, it's just amazing the benefits that it has.

Now I have an off-the-shelf range of hemp teas that help with different things, and I also make bespoke tea blends because I found that everybody's different. Everybody has different things they need help with.

For me, tea is so much more than just the taste. It's also the visual. So I purposely put mine in glass jars because the visual will make you feel a certain way and then you smell it and your body will react to that smell and basically tell you whether that's what you need or not. And this can be an integral part of your branding.

So I've been making bespoke tea blends for women entrepreneurs so that they're able to give something really unique and bespoke that embodies that brands and their own values and personality.

I love doing that because I love working with other women entrepreneurs. I love supporting them and helping them strengthen that connection with their clients while supporting their self-care. That's really our mission, which is to help purpose-led women prioritize their self-care to achieve that deeper mission.

What is it about CBD that makes it so useful for entrepreneurs?

The first thing to explain how CBD helps us is you need to know about the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system is the largest regulating system in the human body.

In fact, it's also found in mammals and some complex fish. So all of us have an endocannabinoid system, and that's so important because that's how CBD will interact with our bodies.

The endocannabinoid system - the endo part means internal - scientists discovered the endocannabinoid system thanks to cannabis because cannabis has what we call a FITO cannabinoid system. FITO means from the plant.

They realized that the compounds that were found in cannabis were mirrored in our own body. So this endocannabinoid system has receptors all over, mostly located on certain vital organs like the heart, the lungs. For women where we have the most receptors is in a warm area, which is why it's so important for women's health, the brain, of course.

So there's all these receptors everywhere in the body, and those cannabinoids and CBD is one of them will attach to those receptors and help the endocannabinoid system regulates all of our systems in the body and basically maintain or create balance in the body. So that's how it helps us.

One of the key research point that is being really looked into more and more is the fact that the endocannabinoid system, and CBD in particular, plays a key role in fighting oxidative stress and acts as a sedative.

Stress is what causes aging and inflammation, so that's really the source of a lot of elements. They're realizing this whole system that's maintaining this balance is helping us on so many different levels.

CBD is a powerful antioxidant and one of the greatest way to fight oxidative stress or its consequences is anti-oxidants. There's lots of antioxidant food like green tea, dark chocolate, blueberries, and CBD and hemp is one of them.

Is there a difference between taking CBD gummies vs CBD oils vs CBD creams?

The short answer is there's no difference. It's CBD and it doesn't matter which form it comes in, it's still CBD.

Now, of course, there are different ways to absorb it in your body and different ways might be better for certain things. For example, if you have a skin condition, it will be better to apply the CBD on the skin with topicals creams.

So some people might like to take it CBD gummies better. Ultimately, as long as the concentration, the milligrams is the same, effectively it's the same. It's the same CBD.

Now, depending on the different methods of absorption, there are different levels of what we call bioavailability, which means that the body absorbs it better or worse, depending on the way that you take it. That's also something to consider. But again, CBD is CBD.

What CBD doses in milligrams should we start off with?

The biggest mistake people make is they'll think, "oh, I have this pain or I have this thing. I need CBD."

And they'll go for the highest percentage that's there or high percentage because they think it's going to work better. Wrong. Don't do that.

The thing we say all the time is start low, go slow. The reason for that is that we are all different. We all have different bodies. We all react to things in different ways. So you don't want to be investing... CBD can be expensive.

If you buy a 25%, your body is going to get used to that, and then you won't be able to go down because you've gotten used to it. Start with a 5%, which is what I usually recommend. But again, there's no right or wrong with this, but start low.

Then you can slowly up your dosage depending on how you feel. It's all about you listening to your body and seeing the difference and taking that into consideration.

Also important to mention: despite what you can hear in some places, while CBD and hemp are amazing, they are no cure and they don't solve all your problems. They also don't work for certain people or in certain cases.

So the best approach is really trial and error. If it's something that has helped other people, if CBD has helped other people with that same thing, then it's definitely worth a try, but it doesn't necessarily mean you'll have the same results or that you'll have results at all.

What do we need to know about herbal and immunity?

There are so many herbs out there that can strengthen the immune system. Herbal teas is just a wonderful to take those benefits.

I love herbal teas because it also reminds everyone that hemp is just a plant and it's a great way to slowly move the needle towards a change in mentalities, which I love.

I feel like everyone loves teas, and it's just a great, super accessible way to get all that goodness. The more you brew it, the more benefits you will have. And because it's caffeine free, it's safe to brew longer. Now some herbs will get a bit bitter, so it's really up to you to see in terms of taste.

Herbal teas are not magic. You won't have a cup of herbal tea and then be cured for whatever. So I like to specify that it's a lifestyle, it's something you want to do as often as possible. When you're really doing something very specific, targeting something really specific, you ideally want to have two to three cups a day.

Name some types of herbs that we should be taking for immunity and stress.

Rosemary is a great herb for immunity. Rosemary is great for strengthening and boosting the immune system. There's also Rose Hips. Rosebuds in fact are packed with vitamins.

Lavender is a really relaxing herb, so for stress and anxiety this is fantastic. One of the herbs we are using in my Sleepy Blend is Tilia, which is Lyme flower or Linden flower. And that's known to calm the nervous system. It's a great herb for when you're feeling a bit under the weather, but it's also really calming.

Herbs always have a lot of different dimensions to them. If you're feeling under the weather, ginger is fantastic to strengthen the immune system as well. Lastly, Thyme is great for respiratory help.

The difference between taking our herbs and CBD in the form of a tea VS supplement capsule.

The thing with capsules is you can have a more concentrated dosage. You'll know exactly what goes in a capsule.

For my teas, I can't tell you exactly the amount of CBD. I can tell you the average for that strain and the average that's been found in lab tests, but every plant is different and you might have a bit more leaves in this one, a bit more flower in this one, so it can vary.

That's what I like, because I like to use the plants as they are. The advantage of a capsule is knowing exactly how much there is in that.

It's the same for CBD oil. For example, you know exactly how much you're getting. So I wouldn't say it's necessarily better or worse as long as your plants are organic in both cases, because everything that has been put on the plant to help it grow is going to go into your body.

Especially when it's extracted, make sure even if it's capsules, that it comes from organically grown, and then it's really a matter of preference.

If you're really targeting something like chronic pain, while the tea can help, you'll probably want to go towards CBD oil as a compliment as well. Because again, you know exactly how much you're getting and you can really compliment nicely what you're doing.

For the tea, it is really a case of drinking it all the time and consistently to feel better. Everyone has a preference, so I'd say there's no better and there's no worse. It's about what you like to do and what you need, and where your body needs.
